Construction Skills Action Plan

In response to the Construction Skills Action Plan we are carrying out are a number of activities in the South of Scotland to provide training and support to the construction industry.

The main areas we aim to address are:

1. To promote apprenticeships at all ages through increasing the training available and providing prospective recruits with a better understanding of the industry.

2. To improve the opportunities for upskilling and updating the skills of existing staff through development of training, accrediting existing skills, and developing a culture of training. Skills within the industry include craft, managerial, administrative and technical.

3. To increase jobs and training opportunities for all (including women and ethnic minorities) through an increased awareness of the opportunities available.

4. To raise the image of the construction industry, countering the perception of low pay, poor progression and long-term job prospects.

5. To Improve training to support the industry, other organisations and implement the CSAP.
